Sam Rockwell sings and dances through his ‘SNL’ opening monologue

Sam Rockwell is having a pretty good start to 2018 – after winning a Golden Globe last weekend for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, the actor kicked off his Saturday Night Live hosting stint with a little song and dance.

“Most of you probably know me as that guy from that movie – not the main guy but the other guy,” he joked in his opening monologue, before wondering if he’s a big shot now that he’s an award winner. “Did I just go from actor to big-ass deal?” he asked the audience. “I’m just as surprised as you are.”

Rockwell then decided to just go “full leading man” and launched into a singing, dancing, ninja-fighting run through the SNL studio.

That leading-man showcase almost included a kiss with Cecily Strong, but she told Rockwell, “We can’t do kissing scenes anymore — we had a whole HR meeting about it.” (Leslie Jones, however, had no qualms — “You know I didn’t go to that meeting,” she said, before planting one on him.)

Watch a portion of the sketch above — this post will be updated with the full video once it’s available.

Stay tuned to Mwbuzz.com for more SNL coverage, including our full recap of Rockwell’s episode.

Olivia Munn Raps Her Way Through The Most Awkward Award Show Opening Ever At Critics’ Choice

Olivia Munn is good at a lot of things… but rapping may not be one of them. The host of the Critics’ Choice Awards had a rocky opening to her gig when she attempted to rap Jay Pharoah.

Olivia Munn is confident, bold and the perfect host for the Critics’ Choice Awards. Women are great at everything they do, because they’re women, but Olivia was made for the role of “Award Show Host.” The actress opened the show with an eccentric, hysterical rap with the help of SNL’s Jay Pharoah, but of course, it wouldn’t have been the start of an awards show without some awkwardness. “I know a ton of people say they don’t really care what the critics think, but I definitely do!” Olivia told the star-studded crowd after introducing some of the biggest films of the evening. “You deserve a big musical number to open your awards show, so that’s exactly what I’m going to give you with Jay Pharaoh. We’re going to have confetti, a gospel choir, everything just for you.” Jay joined Olivia on stage in a gold, sparkling suit, but pulled her aside and loudly told her they needed to “resort to plan B.”

In the awkwardly staged skit, Olivia and Jay acted as if they were unable to fulfill the musical number dream and needed to make up a rap on the spot. Holding an electric keyboard, Jay started the beat and showed off his rap abilities, which weren’t terrible. When it came to Olivia, she purposely struggled through her first verse, before getting herself together and spitting some bars. Following the rap, Olivia had a funny bit where she asked Elisabeth Moss to sign her Handmaid’s Tale bonnet, so she made up for her awkward intro.

There was never a doubt Olivia was going to deliver when it came to her hosting gig. “We are absolutely thrilled to have Olivia hosting this year’s ceremony, and know that she will deliver an entertaining and sharp-witted evening to everyone in the room, and the viewers at home,” BFCA President Joey Berlin said in a statement. “Beyond her skills as an actress, Olivia’s work as an activist within the industry gives her a powerful voice, making her the perfect candidate to lead this night honoring the best and brightest in film and television.” And lead she did, right into a ceremony that will bring awareness to the sexual misconduct issues plaguing Hollywood, The White House, and every other industry, just as the Golden Globes did.

Mwbuzzers, what did you think about Olivia’s opening rap?

Seth Meyers Did Not Hold Back in His Golden Globes Opening Monologue

The tone was decidedly different at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. Following a difficult year, celebrities wore pins in honor of the Time’s Up initiative and all-black ensembles to protest sexual harassment in the industry and stand in solidarity with those who have come forward. The task then of hosting this year’s ceremony — bestowed upon Seth Meyers — was not an easy one.

The 44-year-old comedian and talk show host was unflinchingly honest in his opening monologue, which touched upon the current political landscape, Harvey Weinstein, and the Me Too movement. As an indication of just how honest the monologue was setting up to be, Meyers began by saying, “Welcome, ladies and remaining gentlemen.” Watch the monologue in its entirety above and then check out his best jokes here.

The 7 Best Jokes From Seth Meyers's Opening Monologue at the 2018 Golden Globes

Seth Meyers took the stage at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards against a backdrop of social change and protest – and all things considered, he knocked it out of the park. While not every joke knocked it out of the park, his opening monologue skillfully touched on the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, Harvey Weinstein, President Donald Trump‘s first year in office, and the evolving landscape of Hollywood. Meyers also acknowledged the fact that he was the first celebrity to take the stage at an award ceremony since allegations started trickling in three months ago, and it’s worth noting that he did so in a way that only he could. Below, check out seven of the best moments from Meyers’s 2018 opening monologue.

  • “Welcome ladies and remaining gentlemen.” – Tackling the myriad firings, suspensions, and retirements that have come as a result of the #MeToo movement.
  • “Marijuana is finally allowed and sexual harassment finally isn’t!” — Noting the sea change of policy in Hollywood and elsewhere.
  • “Remember when Seth Rogen was the guy making trouble with North Korea? Simpler times.” — On Trump’s ongoing feud with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.
  • “Don’t worry, he’ll be back in 20 years when he becomes the first person to be booed during the In Memoriam.” — On how Hollywood will handle Harvey Weinstein going forward.
  • “We’re here tonight because of the Hollywood Foreign Press association. A string of three words that could not have been better designed to infuriate our president — Hollywood Foreign Press. The only thing worse would be ‘Hilary Mexico Salad Association.'” — Again pointing out the current tumultuous presidency.
  • “When I first heard there would be a movie where a woman falls in love with a disgusting sea monster, I thought, ‘Oh man, not another Woody Allen movie . . .'” — Joking about The Shape Of Water‘s nomination.
  • Oprah Winfrey is receiving the Cecil B. DeMille award tonight. What a tremendous honor for Cecil B. DeMille.” — On Oprah receiving the legendary award.

Watch the dazzling opening chase scene from 'Mary and The Witch's Flower'

If you know the name Studio Ghibli, then you’re familiar with director Hayao Miyazaki and films like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl’s Moving Castle. Well, one of the animators, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, directed a new feature film called Mary and The Witch’s Flower. While this marks the debut project for Studio Ponoc, a budding Japanese animation house, the reveal of the work’s kinetic opening sequence previews a dynamic visual style that entranced fans of Studio Ghibli.

Yonebayashi previously directed The Secret World of Arrietty (2010) and When Marnie Was There (2014). With Mary and The Witch’s Flower, based on Mary Stewart’s children’s book The Little Broomstick, he weaves a new animated world around the character of Mary.

The young girl grows bored of living with her great aunt in the countryside, but when she follows a mysterious cat into the woods, she stumbles upon a broomstick and the Fly-by-night flower, an elusive plant that blossoms once every several years. Both objects whisk her away to a school for magic that exists above the clouds.

The opening chase scene involving a young witch speeding through the sky after stealing the flower, shows how those mystical objects came to cross Mary’s path.

Mary and The Witch’s Flower is to set to premiere with a special event in select theaters on Jan. 18 before going wide on Jan. 19. Watch the new footage above.

Celeb kids… they’re just like us! They watch Christmas movies, leave out cookies and milk for Santa, and can’t wait to open their holiday presents! Obviously, the West’s, Disick’s, Rossdale’s and more had a family-filled Christmas morning with matching jammies, amazing gifts and beyond! The Kar-Jenner family got an early start to Christmas morning — surprising, since they were all up late dancing the night away at Kris Jenner‘s annual Christmas Eve bash. Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian documented the Christmas morning fun on their Snapchats, showing Kourt’s three kids, Mason, 8, Penelope, 5, and Reign, 3, joined by their cousins, Kim Kardashian’s North, 4, and Saint, 2. The crew donned matching jammies and held hands before racing towards the huge Christmas tree to open their gifts as a family. So cute! Another queen of Christmas, Gwen Stefani, gave her three boys a Christmas to rememberThe Voice coach showed her three kids, Kingston, 11, Zuma, 9, and Apollo, 3, ran hand-in-had, wearing lion and elf onesies, toward a hallway decked out with Christmas wrapping paper blocking the entry way to the next room. On the count of three, the boys tore down the paper and ran into a room filled with toys… and Gwen’s BF Blake Shelton filming the whole thing. The first thing the boys saw was a camouflage jeep, which the older boys pointed out was for Apollo. It’s unclear exactly what Apollo said when he figured out that was for him, but he seemed pretty pumped. We have to say that Blake was probably thrilled, himself, being a camoflage-loving country boy, himself.

Other celebrity kids showing off their Christmas treats included Busy Philipps‘ daughter, Birdie, who got a customized pair of ice skates, and LeBron James‘ daughter Zhuri who had the best reaction of all-time to her furry boots!
